To reload the manufacturer list you can use the "Refresh category list" option. I know the name is very misleading, it should be named "Reload data lists" or something like that. That option actually reloads categories, tax classes, currencies, etc., except products.

About uploading the manufacturer image, I'm taking note of your request. I'll implement it in a later release.
