Special announces are just a variant of other articles, they will be listed along with other articles only if there is an INDEX or SHORTINDEX sentence.

Other notes: Special announces are "propagated" from bottom to top, so, if you have an special announce deep in a directory, it will appear in all upper directories. And it doesn't matter if you use INDEX or SHORTINDEX.

I can see the special announce when I am in the homepage and I set max homepage docs to one or above, but in the subdirectories it does not show.

In my config I have max homepage docs set to zero, so when a special announce is labeled in a subdirectory it just disappears...

Thus, no-one will ever see the special announce content.

Did you decide to exclude the special announce on subdirectories?

Best Regards,

Mark Coudriet

F.Y.I.

I do have #INDEX# OR #SHORTINDEX# specified and I can see all other subdirectories except the special announce directory. :D

Hi. Now I see your point. Sometimes it takes a while until I get it... :P

When I wrote the code for the special announces I thought of them just like normal articles with color, but now I realize that they should be more special than that. If they are so special, they should be displayed without the limits applied to normal articles.

I'll fix this in the next beta.

By the way, why do you use zero as the max number of articles to show in homepage? I'm just curious.

Post subject: Too many root docs
PostPosted: 27 Jun 2003, 07:18
Everyone wants a root document & the users' are using 640 X 400 resolution so they have to scroll forever to get to the bottom document.
I'm trying to get them to clean-up & get more organized, but you know how that is.

Most likely after I can get them straightened out, I will put Max docs between 1 to 3.

Just to clarify regarding the special announce, originally I think back in beta 6 or 5 the special announce worked on the subdirectories. It acted just like a regular article except that the background & border color would change.

In beta 7 I noticed that all the subdirectories that were labeled special announce no longer showed up in the subdirectory listing where #SHORTINDEX# or #INDEX# was placed. I assumed that either this is a bug, or that you decided to make changes to the special announce display properties.

What I am most concerned about is that users' will begin to get confused. Fortunately most have not even realized that there is a special announce.

I hope this explains better what I meant in the previous posts.

Mark

It would be neat if on special announces (or all articles in general) if there could be an experiation date attached to them. Like special announces revert back to regular articles, and regular articles revert to archived...

Just some thoughts I had that I thought might be of some interest.

Have a great weekend,

Mark Coudriet :D

I'm taking note of your suggestion.
